Our first steps
Hello! My name is Austin Moon and I am a Sophomore here at Winston Churchill High School. I’m the founder and president of the Science Research and Competition Club. We began the club in May of 2022 as we set out on a mission to pursue our passion of science through various competitions. Not only are we a club dedicated to engrossing students with passion in biotechnology, the environment, and STEM, but we also compete in various competitions for different cash prizes and awards. I recruited friends and peers, hoping to expand our club to the entire school.
During our first club meeting, I was nervous to introduce our goals and hopes for the future. It was a newfound experience becoming a leader in front of my peers for the first time. However, over time, it became more natural as I was able to see my peers brainstorm more topics for our upcoming competition. Working together made me feel like we were part of a whole, and it was rewarding seeing our progress throughout the first stages of our club birth. Our first competition of the year was the Conrad Challenge, an annual, multi-phase innovation and entrepreneurship competition that encourages young adults to design the future. Our team includes more than 12 individuals who all share a love of science. However, as the Conrad Challenge only allowed teams of 2-5, we had to compromise with each other in order to put forward our best team. Although we had to settle on a two person group, we still make sure that all are contributing the most that they can. With our hard work and dedication, we advanced to the 2nd stage of the 4 stage gauntlet of the coveted Conrad Challenge Winner. We learned how to work together through the Lean Canvas Stage, where we had to write out our ideas that we had planned.
Now, we are hard at work preparing videos, research, and writing for the upcoming stage.
