THE SCIENCE OF OCEAN AWARENESS COMPETITIONS
As the world becomes increasingly aware of the impact of climate change on our planet, ocean awareness has risen to the forefront of scientific exploration. The Science Research and Competition Club (SRCC) has taken on this challenge by participating in ocean awareness competitions. In this blog post, we'll delve into the science behind ocean awareness, including marine biology, oceanography, and environmental science, and share insights into SRCC's involvement in these important events.
At the core of ocean awareness is marine biology, the study of all life forms in the ocean. This field encompasses a diverse range of creatures, from microscopic plankton to the largest mammals on earth, such as whales. SRCC members have been actively studying the interconnected web of marine ecosystems, gaining insights into the complex relationships between various species and their environments.By participating in ocean awareness competitions, club members are provided with opportunities to develop innovative solutions that address the challenges faced by marine life. For instance, they've researched ways to reduce plastic pollution and its impact on sea turtles and other endangered species. Through our projects, we've learned about the intricacies of marine biology and gained a deeper appreciation for the delicate balance of marine ecosystems.
Oceanography is the study of the physical and chemical properties of the ocean, delving into its history, movement, and life within. As part of their involvement in ocean awareness competitions, SRCC members have gained a deeper understanding of this vast and complex realm. For example, our team has studied ocean currents, which play a significant role in regulating Earth's climate by transporting heat from the equator towards the poles. In our projects, we've examined the effects of climate change on ocean circulation, such as the slowing down of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC). We've also delved into the mysteries of underwater volcanoes and their influence on marine life. As a result, SRCC has gone in depth researching and have been participating in the Ocean Awareness Comeptition for over two years now.
By diving into the disciplines of marine biology, oceanography, and environmental science, the Science Research and Competition Club is taking an active role in raising ocean awareness. Our involvement in these competitions not only provides opportunities for our members to grow as scientists but also enables us to contribute to the global conversation on how we can protect our oceans and their inhabitants for future generations.
